Reaching Goals Together

by Healthy Wealthy nWise

Charlie Gay might be an unknown name to you, but the events he has organized have been enjoyed by millions. He began his impressive career when he was only 22 years old. By age 24, he was organizing events for Margaret Thatcher. Soon, he was promoting some of the top events in the world for people like Luciano Pavarotti, Pink Floyd, Duran Duran, Fleetwood Mac, and Phil Collins.

Charlie Gay moved to the United States in 1991 to join Cher’s personal management team. With Frank Yablans, founder of Buena Vista and head of Paramount Pictures, Charlie co-founded Promenade Pictures, and he also organized events for the Rose Bowl, Cotton Bowl, Candlestick Park, and the Washington, D.C. Mall.

With all of the work and travel in his life, you’d think Charlie had no time for changing the world. You’d be wrong. Charlie Gay’s real joy is in his work with Humanity Unites Brilliance, or HUB. HUB is a for-profit organization striving to bring people out of mere survival and into self-empowerment and sustained abundance.

Both his successes and failures have always been driven by Charlie Gay’s enthusiasm and passion. Zeal has led people to the pinnacle of success, but it has also gotten people into a lot of trouble. Charlie is no different, but his successes in life have greatly surpassed his failures. Two of his recent successes include his work with Nelson Mandela’s Mineseeker Foundation and his commitment to organize Billy Graham’s final crusade.

Charlie Gay has always been passionate about bringing people together whether through charity or music. He believes everyone has a desire for doing something great, but most people stop with desire. They don’t know how to act upon it. That’s what makes HUB so great. People with common goals can come together uniting their individual strengths.

Mozambique is a great point of example. Massive flooding recently forced people from their homes into large refugee camps. Non-profit aids were out of money and resources, and even the United Nations World Food Program was unable to help. Charlie spoke to Heidi Baker about the situation to find out what needed to be done. Heidi had been a primary care-giver in Mozambique for over 20 years.

Heidi did not feel she was able to deal with the hunger problem alone, so Charlie reached out to Larry Jones of the non-profit Feed the Children organization. Together they reached out to the for-profit company Nourish the Children, enabling them to deliver $2 million worth of meals from a factory in China to the starving refugees in Mozambique.

Look within yourself. What is your strength? What is your goal? What piece of the puzzle is missing to help you attain your goal? The saying holds true, “Give a man a fish, and he’ll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he’ll never go hungry.” Reach out to others, and together you can make a difference!

What Hypnosis is Not!

by Atticus Jackson

Today we live in a world full of perceptions, misconceptions, and many deceptions; Often, it is hard to tell these apart when learning new things.

Hypnosis is no stranger to an incredible amount of misconceptions, which is why it is important to really understand what those misconceptions are before assuming you can or cannot accomplish an objective through hypnosis. To really understand what hypnosis, or anything for that matter, is you must first understand all that it is not.

Once you know what hypnosis is not, everything you are left with is what hypnosis is.

Many false pretenses have been made through the media about hypnosis, most of these through movies and word of mouth. An important thing to note is that you cannot dominate someone’s mind through hypnosis, you cannot control every action of just anyone using hypnosis.

The will of a human being is another thing that cannot be dominated using hypnosis. Basically hypnosis isn’t somehting you can use to dominate the world in anyway or take over the human race, so if this is your intended destination then you might want to look into a new way of getting there.

The misconceptions that surround hypnosis can seem almost endless, which can often be the case when you consider any type of work that is associated with power over ones mind, thoughts, ideas and actions.

Many false ideas about hypnosis and the associations with hypnosis are created by societies acknowledgment of the power behind hypnotic methods. An example of this being the power of money; When someone has alot of money, it is thought that they must have alot of power. If you do not know how to use your power wisely though, you will fail.

If you really want to be a masterful hypnotist, you must wipe clean any misconception you might have about hypnosis.

The most common misconception in the field of hypnosis is that associated with power. Yes it is true that you will own a sort of power over the mind of your subjects, however this is not to say you will be able to control them completely.

Quite the opposite, part of hypnosis that few are aware of is that hypnosis is actually a type of negotiation with the unconscious mind. The unconscious mind is where you store your base of morals and ethics, and while you can as a hypnotist negotiate with the unconscious, you will never be able to change or control one’s morals and ethics.

The ethical code stored by the unconscious cannot be broken, these are the beliefs and moral standards that every person lives their life by.

Among the common myths of hypnosis is the idea that one can completely control another, this is a myth simply because a person, whether in hypnotic trance or not, will only do what they want to do.

The common entertainment of stage hypnotists is a good example of this. Audience members will be selected or will volunteer for the hypnotist’s act. These volunteers know that they might be asked to do something that they may not be aware of, even if they are embarrassing. On some level they know what the limit is.

However on some level in their minds they are volunteering because they crave the attention that comes from being exhibitionists. The volunteers know they will be controlled by the hypnotist and they are consciously okay with that because it does not cause conflict with their moral code.

Non-profit aid programs had no money or resources available, and the United Nations World Food Program short by 70% on expected funding. Heidi Baker had been a primary care-giver in the country for over 20 years, so when Charlie spoke to her, he knew something needed to be done.

Framing a Firework Shot

by Dan Feildman

Fireworks displays can induce a lot of feelings in people as they are not only beautiful and amazing to observe but they also are many times used to commemorate momentous occasions.

Figuring out where to aim your camera can be one of the most complicated factors in photographing fireworks. The difficulty lies in that you will typically need to aim the camera prior to the fireworks to be photographed go off. Anticipating the moment is essential. Note the following tips to get your framing right.

Check out the location before hand. Planning is imperative with fireworks and getting to the site early in order to get an excellent, unobstructed spot is important. Keep in mind what is in the foreground and background of your shots and ensure you won’t have people’s heads popping up into your shots. Also think about what effect you’ll have on those around you.

Try to determine in what area the fireworks are being set up and into what area of the sky they will most likely to shot into. Check with those who are organizing or setting up for the event if possible for this information if you cannot tell yourself. Also decide on what focal lengths you might want to use and select the right lenses now as opposed to during the firework show.

Watch for the horizons. An important factor when lining up fireworks shots is whether your camera is even or straight in its framing. This is particularly essential if you’re going to shooting with a wide focal length and will get other background elements in your shots such as a cityscape. Keeping horizons straight is something we covered previously on this site and is important in fireworks shots also. Make sure your camera is level on your tripod from the time you set up.

How do you choose vertical or horizontal? There are two main ways of framing shots in all types of photography, vertically (portrait) or horizontally (landscape). Although both can be used in fireworks photography, I myself find a vertical perspective is better, mostly because there is a lot of vertical motion in fireworks. Horizontal shots will work if you are aiming for more of a landscape shot with a wider focal length or if you want to capture multiple bursts of fireworks in the one shot.

Remember your framing - I find that when I photograph fireworks that I spend less time looking in my viewfinder and more looking at the sky directly. As a result it’s important to remember what framing you have and to watch that segment of the sky. Doing this will also help you to anticipate the right time for a shot as you’ll see the light trails of unexploded rockets shooting into the sky.

Be aware of where the fireworks will be launched from and into what are of the sky the will be shot to. If possible, ask those who are preparing for the show for information on what the event will consist of. Also consider what focal lengths you might want to use and select suitable lenses at this time as opposed to in the middle of the show.

Keep an eye on the horizons. Always consider if your camera is even or straight in its framing when lining up your firework shots. This will be especially critical when shooting with a wide focal length to include other background elements into your shot. When getting your camera on your tripod make sure it’s level from the time you set up.

Vertical or Horizontal? - There are two main ways of framing shots in all types of photography, vertically (portrait) or horizontally (landscape). Both can work in fireworks photography but I personally find a vertical perspective is better - particularly as there is a lot of vertical motion in fireworks. Horizontal shots can work if you’re going for more of a landscape shot with a wider focal length of if you’re wanting to capture multiple bursts of fireworks in the one shot - but I don’t tend to go there that often.

Keep your framing in mind. Since I find myself watching the sky directly more when photographing fireworks instead of looking through my viewfinder, it is important to remember what framing you have set and watch that part of the sky. This will help to raise your level of anticipation of the shot as you will see the light trails of unexploded rockets being launched into the night.

Sound System Rental Is Great with Digital Equipment

by Steve Collins

Rent or own? For many products, this is real challenge. For instance, is it smart to rent a rototiller if you do not often need one, or is it better to buy one, assuming it will eventually pay for itself over years of us? In some cases, renting is questionable. After all, you never know who operated equipment last and how they treated it, and can you truly trust the owner to administer proper maintenance every time?

If you know you are going to require a thing only once, and it is extremely expensive to buy, there really is no choice but to rent, however. Such is often the case with sound equipment. Digital audio consoles are costly to purchase. If you only need the equipment for a weekend, a sound system rental is the only way to go. Also, if you are responsible for sound for a traveling musical or a concert tour then renting is often the best way to go.

With today’s digital equipment, it is a very basic process to input data and set-up information in minutes. Programming these sound mixers is a snap, and they offer control at the touch of a button. When renting, however, you must have unwavering confidence in the company with whom you work. They must offer the latest mixers, well-maintained systems, and thorough training on the equipment, if necessary.

All of the equipment in Hi-Tech Audio’s rental stable is of excellent quality. The staff members are trusted by some of the most well known sound providers in the industry for everything from tour work to live broadcasts. Their long history of delivering state of the art sound systems has built for them an unsurpassed reputation.

How to Clean Up Sound Effects by Removing Low-end Noise

by SFXsource

The audio side of video is often not well recorded due to small production budgets and short time frames. Therefore, during post-production, producers can be assaulted by a series of previous sonic missteps. An annoying rumble or hum in the low end is a common problem in audio recorded for video.

Software plugins that remove noise from audio abound and some function very well. However, under a fast approaching deadline, one may not have the time to find, purchase, and learn the nuances of a new plugin. For these situations, simply turn to the default equalization and reverbs provided in your audio or video editing software.

Use these procedures in tandem with your default plugins to help rid your audio recording of unnecessary and distracting noise:

Initially you can try using a Single Band EQ to attempt to erase much, if not all, of the unwanted hum. Using such an EQ you can take away all the audio below or above a certain frequency. For instance, since a low end rumble from an air conditioner emits around 60 Hz then by placing a Single Band EQ at 80 Hz one can most likely eradicate most of the unwanted noise without damaging any voice tracks.

Secondly, a Parametric EQ can be used to “notch out” the unwanted noise by decreasing a thin width of audio frequencies and its octaves such as 60 Hz, 120 Hz, and 240 Hz. The advantage of using a Parametric EQ is that one can notch out the offensive noise without hurting wanted audio.

Next, a Parametric EQ can also be used to boost the wanted audio. Boosting the desired frequencies will give them prominence over the unwanted noise and thus redirect the listener’s attention from the noise. For instance, put a small hump in around 5 Khz will amp the human voice over a lower rumble.

Fourth, after cutting out the lower end, a bit of reverb can be used on the mix. Such an effect can wash over and warm up a “tin can” feel that might come from taking out the bottom end.

By using the above tips, while they will not completely fix poorly recorded audio, one can vastly help the quality of a recording in which a undesirable low end frequency is compromising the other elements in an audio mix.
