by Joe Anderson

It is a requirement that a license to practice be earned through the sitting for licensing exams. Once you’ve passed your exams, you’ll obtain a national pharmacy technician training certificate and become a CPhT or a Certified Pharmacy Technician. This certificate is absolutely necessary if you’re looking to make being a pharmacy tech as a career choice.

Most states will require a licensed pharmacy technician to be recertified every two years to continually refresh your skills in the pharmacy. Employers generally look for individuals with proper certifications as these documents signify a level of competency and skill.

A job as a pharmacy technician is often not difficult to find - hospitals, nursing homes, health clinics and retail pharmacy are just some of your potential job opportunities. Choosing a career as a pharmacy technician can give you great job stability with the multitude of opportunities available. It is important to know that different pharmacies have varying levels of responsibility required. For example, technicians working in nursing homes and health clinics may be required to have a detailed understanding of medical issues as they’d have to administer the appropriate prescriptions to patients daily.

Because a pharmacy technician is required through out the day, these technicians generally work in shifts. As a result, more money can be earned per hour in the evenings and on weekends. If you’re interested in becoming pharmacy technician as career, it is important to understand the varying salaries that one such technician can earn. Much of this will depend on your level of experience and geographical location - whether you’re looking for work in a city or a small town.

When looking to hire a pharmacy tech and if you’re considering taking on becoming a pharmacy technician as a career choice, certain qualities are deemed favorable. Possessing good communication skills is an important component in becoming a successful pharmacy technician. Patients need to be able to comprehend with clarity the medication and dosages they must take in. Instructions must be clear. Being alert, organized and efficient are other key components of a proficient technician.

As a pharmacy technician, in addition to administering prescriptions, you will be required to advise patients about their health and sometimes their diet. Not only just patients but also pharmacists and healthcare professionals. As such, technicians should always keep abreast of the latest in medicine developments and be willing to work closely with pharmacy aids and pharmacists as a team.

Being a pharmacy tech requires precision as there is no room for error. Every prescription requires the exact medicines to be prepared. The technician has to verify that all information provided are both accurate and complete, and verify its validity with the pharmacist before it is dispensed. Apart from medications, a pharmacy technician may often be asked to keep patient records updated and current as well as take stock of the medicines kept.

Becoming pharmacy technician as career is a wise career move as there will most likely be an increased demand for this set of skills. With the advancements in medicine as well as the increased life span of people in general, the job of a pharmacy tech will always be needed.

Tai Chi Exercises for Mind, Body, and Spirit

by Ray Lam

Tai Chi, or Tai Chi Ch’?an, is an ancient form of martial art, which is being increasingly used as an exercise due to its various health benefits. The word Tai Chi Ch’?an in Mandarin means “boundless fist,” or “supreme ultimate boxing.” Tai Chi basically stresses health, meditation and a soft form of martial arts. As a result, tai chi works to improve the muscular, skeletal and circulatory system. This is done by a number of slow motion exercises that instill awareness about the balance of, and within the body.

Qigong, pronounced chee-kung, literally means “breathing exercise.” The more popular exercise of Tai Chi is a form of Qigong. Modern medical research is now revealing that Tai Chi & Qigong are powerful health sciences, as well as effective aerobic exercises.

Studies have shown that Tai Chi can lower high blood pressure, and profoundly boost aspects of the immune system, while improving balance and coordination far better than any other known exercise. Tai Chi can reduce or eliminate chronic pain or limited mobility, while lessening the incidence of anxiety, depression, or overall mood disturbance. Tai Chi is the lowest impact exercise there is, and has even been used by those with arthritis, yet as gentle as it is it burns about 280 calories per hour, and provides roughly the same cardiovascular benefits of moderate impact aerobics.

This graceful form of exercise has been known to help people regain strength, posture and balance. It can improve circulation while also bringing on a meditative state that assists in relaxation.

A study in the Archives of Internal Medicine (3-8-04) examined 47 previous studies on the health effects of Tai Chi, and found that Tai Chi showed positive effects on Respiratory and cardiovascular functioning; Blood pressure; Balance; Arthritis, flexibility and strength; Depression or mood; Immunity

What exactly is adult dyslexia?

by Josh Ramos

Dyslexia may not be as serious as lung cancer or some form of heart disease. Nevertheless, it can make life very difficult for any adult who has this condition. In order to have a real chance of improvement, you must first try to understand this condition.

What exactly is a adult dyslexia? It is a learning disability which makes it difficult for people to understand and process words. Specifically, there seems to be a problem with short term memory as well as processing visual data.

Different people have different degrees of dyslexia. Some conditions are so severe that the person may be completely illiterate. Other kinds of patients usually have a difficult time processing the spoken word such as taking notes or filling out paperwork. As you can imagine, this makes modern life very difficult for the dyslexic.

One factor that makes dyslexia so frustrating is the diagnosis. Unfortunately, many patients do not realize that they are dyslexic until after many years of suffering and confusion. It doesn’t help very much that doctors are not exactly sure what causes this disability.

There still needs to be much more research in order to fully understand dyslexia. Even so, many researchers now believe they have some understanding of this condition. Their theory states that there is a problem with a portion of the brain that deals with lexical information.

It is estimated that 4 to 10% of the population has this condition. Also, it is believed that the condition known as adult dyslexia is much more common in men than in women. It is difficult to know the exact number of people affected by this condition because most would be embarrassed to admit they have a problem.

There’s no doubt that dyslexia can make people’s lives very difficult. Common, everyday tasks such as taking notes or filling out paperwork can seem like huge obstacles. But you should never give up if you are faced with this or any other difficulty.

Do not be embarrassed if you think you may have adult dyslexia. It is more important to seek help and be on your way to treatment. The first step is to get diagnosed, but this will not happen if you try to hide from your condition.

Treadmill Parts

by Ray Lam

After you get your new treadmill home you need to know how your new machine works and this means getting to know all the names of the treadmill parts. Unfortunately if something were to go wrong with your treadmill then you would need to know what needed fixing and this would undoubtedly be some or one of the treadmill parts.

Treadmill parts are available in a number of different locations. Your local exercise outlet may carry parts for your brand, whether it be Proform, Nordic Trac, Sears, or something else entirely. If you do not have a nearby exercise equipment outlet, you may have to turn to the internet to find parts for your treadmill. There are a number of websites dedicated to the sale of parts for treadmills and other exercise equipment pieces like the Total Gym.

When you get ready to repair your treadmill, there are several places to check for problems. The best place to start looking is the belt and the deck. Each step described will, of course, depend on the model and brand you have. To check out the deck and the belt, you must loosen the tension roller. Be careful, though. If you get it too loose, you will lose the bolts out of the roller shaft. Next, inspect the belt itself for a smooth, consistent feel. Any uneven wear or potential seam failure requires a complete replacement of the belt. The deck should also be very smooth.

It is that part of the treadmill which is to be replaced after investigative research. The first thing in this regard is to check the compatibility of the belt, you might be getting, with your exercising unit. The customer services must be utilized before the deal is made as they play a very informative and helpful role in purchasing an item.

One thing that you should make sure that you look for is if your treadmill is under warranty. Although most of them only come with a one year parts and labor warranty, many of them do have a lifetime warrant these on the frame and the motor. If you are having a difficult time with either of these parts, contact the treadmill manufacturer to see if your particular model might be covered under a lifetime warranty. You may be able to save yourself a lot of time, money and trouble.

Dyslexia can be a very problematic condition and dealing with adult dyslexia without the proper treatment and diagnosis is difficult because sufferers tend to hide it as it affects the quality of their life. Dyslexia is not a well known condition and in order to deal with it, you have to know what Dyslexia really is, its symptoms, its causes and its prevalence.

Dyslexia is basically a condition that presents a person’s difficulty in processing information that is usually related to short-term memory deficiency and visual coordination. If you have this condition, your short-term memory would be particularly weak. It can be either your auditory or visual memory that is affected or both. Some people do not even know that they are dyslexic; while there are a huge number of people, who are only diagnosed when they have reached adulthood already. This may be due to the unpopularity of the condition. Sometimes, it can be misdiagnosed too to be as a different condition that may present similar symptoms.

There is no pinpointed cause of dyslexia, even though much research has been conducted to be able to explain its main cause. However, there are some researches that have gathered some relevant findings on the condition. Some neurological research suggests that a person who has this condition may have some abnormality on how his or her brain’s left hemisphere functions. This is relevant since the left hemisphere is the one that controls your lexical system.

Whatever the main cause may be, there sems to be little doubt that a lot of people having literacy problems really do have some kind of sound insensitivity in different ways. Due to this problem, reading problems often occurs. What is also obvious is that even though the cause of the problems can be multi-causal and can be different from one person to another, they can still be the main source of intense frustration and depression for any dyslexic person.

The estimated cases of dyslexia vary greatly each year. It is estimated that it occurs from about to 4-10% of the population. It is also believed that males are more likely to suffer from dyslexia with a ratio of four males to one female.

Dyslexia is a condition that is quite hard to recognize. It is also one condition that most people who have it try to hide. Simple tasks like filling in forms, taking phone messages, or even completing timesheets can already be major problems when you have this condition.

The Sole F85 Treadmill Review: Rated a Best Buy Folding Treadmill

by Torri Tompson

The Sole F85 treadmill is getting a lot of rave reviews, so I thought I’d check it out for myself. I wanted to see what was so dynamic about the machine. After reviewing it, I see why it’s the number one selling treadmill at Sole Fitness.

The first thing that I noticed about the Sole F85 was how it was constructed. It is a very unique and sturdy design. So sturdy that it will probably last years, if not a person’s lifetime. The unique construction of the treadmill enabled it to have some really cool bells and whistles added to it, too.

The Sole F85 treadmill has a large running area that is great for someone who is tall, very heavy, or an intense runner. People with long limbs, or people who weigh upwards of 400 pounds, can feel comfortable and safe using this machine. It is equipped with a 3.5 continuous duty horsepower motor that easily accommodates large and/or very athletic people, and it won’t strain under pressure. The motor is very powerful, quiet, and ultra smooth.

Another thing that stood out to me was the shock absorption deck on the Sole F85. It has a Cushion Flex deck that is better than other treadmill decks. This will make it easier for people to walk or run longer-without putting too much pressure on the knees and joints. There is no doubt about it, using this machine will be a lot more comfortable than walking or running outdoors, too.

The Sole F85 is very stable and strong. The frame alone weighs in at 280 pounds. Yet, despite its weight, it is easy to fold due to its easy assist folding feature. I also found that the treadmill is easy to roll around and maneuver, too. This makes it ideal for people who need to move their machine after using it.

Unique features that I like on the Sole F85 treadmill include the two onboard cooling fans and the built-in speakers for iPods or MP3 players. Obviously, Sole Fitness has really put a lot of thought into the treadmill and figured out ways to make consumers more comfortable during their workouts.

The Sole F85 treadmill has other features consumers will like too such as speed and incline controls on the arm rests, a lifetime warranty on the motor, deck and frame, and a five year warranty on parts. If you are in the market for a new folding treadmill, make sure the Sole F85 is at the top of your list.

Do Common Anti-wrinkle Creams Actually Work?

by Jen Hopkins

It’s a little-recognized fact; about three quarters of the human race is vain in some way, shape, or form. I am often a little vain myself; though there is a difference between being disgustingly vain and trying to take care of your body properly. One constant war humans fight is against wrinkles. In this article, we’ll contemplate what products whether natural or factory-based can actually help reduce one’s wrinkles and products that are just talk, while attempting to answer an everyday question from everywhere across Earth… do wrinkle creams actually work?

Before diving into the works of reputed ‘miracle’ products, it would be useful to list a few avoidable factors that point your road toward even more horrid wrinkles later in life. Major factors include sun exposure, dehydration, smoking, and drugs, the main problem remaining dehydration. Using skin-moisturizing creams and such in place of alcohol-based skin products will help this, as alcohol-based products result in the mentioned above and cause skin damage… which will result in what? You guessed it! Wrinkles!

This prevention is always the best cure; if nothing else, it will help one to age gracefully. By wearing strong sunblock, not smoking, and using moisturizing creams, one can reduce or halt eventual wrinkles (while also taking better care of your entire body, too). Remember; no amount of this work can completely stop wrinkles, as wrinkles are a mere factor of age so people rely on wrinkle creams to retain youthful appearances.

One popular agent of anti-wrinkle creams is that some creams manage to pull the skin a bit more taut over the skull and muscles and lend it additional support with some success. This is accomplished through products that moisturize the skin. However, as much as you might think so, these wrinkle creams (or as many market them \”Anti-aging cream,\”) are not miraculous salves. Truly, wrinkle creams that add moisture can normally lead to a 10% decrease in depth of the creases, which is quite significant, but will not leave a 50-year old person looking like a 20 year old.

One place to look for help with finding the perfect Wrinkle cream or anti-aging product is the American Anti-Aging association. This is a private group that looks at the many products on the market and rates them on scales of usefulness. Of course, one could also look at various consumer reviews or search magazines and internet sources to find the perfect cream.

Anti-wrinkle cream does is crafted to work in a number of ways. Firstly, it improves one’s skin quality by moisturizing, primarily by using retinol. Retinol is a type of vitamin A that is fat-soluble, so is often used in wrinkle creams.

Retinol is contained in a number of natural ingredients such as various foods. One could get at retinol by eating eggs, liver, spinach and carrots. The benefit of a cream containing retinol, rather than ingesting it is simple. If you apply the cream directly to the face, the retinol gets directly to the area you want it to be. This means none of the precious material is wasted in the metabolism.

The question approached at the beginning of the article asked, \”Do wrinkle creams really work?\” My conclusive answer is, yes, wrinkle creams do work to some degrees, depending on how you look at it. The act of applying wrinkle creams combined with some degree of long-term, preventative protection can work miracles for one’s skin and shed years of age off their overall appearance.

Rheumatoid Arthritis Causes and Diagnosis

by Ray Lam

Rheumatoid arthritis affects the many joints in our bodies and is not prominent in any one place over the other. This type of arthritis also affects the heart, lungs and the blood as well. Rheumatoid arthritis is the inflammation of synovium, or joint lining. The pain suffered from this extremely painful disease can be from stiffness, redness, swelling, and warmth. The joints that are affected over time may lose their shape and will result in the loss of normal everyday movement. Rheumatoid arthritis generally starts around the age of twenty and can last a lifetime. This type of disease typically flares and can have active symptoms or in remissions with no symptoms or only a few of them.

What are the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis? In some patients with rheumatoid arthritis, chronic inflammation leads to the destruction of the cartilage, bone and ligaments causing deformity of the joints. Unlike osteoarthritis, which results from wear and tear on your joints, rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammatory condition. Because it can affect multiple other organs of the body, rheumatoid arthritis is referred to as a systemic illness and is sometimes called rheumatoid disease.

Rheumatoid arthritis is as autoimmune disease, which means that the body?s immune system is not working as it should and lets the rheumatoid arthritis disease attack the healthy joints and the tissues around it, allowing for the initiation of joint damage and inflammation.

Rheumatoid arthritis is diagnosed by a positive Rh factor, (a blood test), and x-rays that show rheumatoid deterioration in the joints. There are many different ways to treat rheumatoid arthritis, which include medication, rest, exercise and surgery. The medications fall into two specific categories, NSAIDs and DMARDs, and attempt to reduce the pain, swelling and inflammation. Humira, one of the latest discoveries, attempts to isolate the diseased cells so they cannot reproduce and cause more harm.

Some professionals also believe that rheumatoid arthritis can be caused from a trigger like an infection caused by bacterium or a virus in people that have the inherited tendency for the rheumatoid arthritis disease. Rheumatoid arthritis in a way, may be triggered through a virus, yet it is not something that is contagious and you cannot give it to other people, you cannot ?catch it?

Ovarian Cyst

by paul greene

Having a number of ovarian cyst symptoms does not in and of itself prove that a cyst exists, but some symptoms are a much clearer indicator than others. A single symptom is generally not anything to worry about, but two or more of them together are a definite wake up call to see a doctor.

An unusual menstrual cycle can point to the possibility of having cysts, particularly if up until this time the menstrual period has always been predictable. Therefore, anything out of the ordinary during a cycle can be an indicator: symptoms of ovarian cysts might include excessive bleeding, irregular menstruation, or spotting in between periods. In addition, there might also be unexplained weight gain.

Ovarian cysts can cause pelvic pain as a result or the start of menses, intercourse, or strenuous exercise. The symptom can include aching in the thighs and lower back. If the ovarian cyst bursts, bleeds, or twists, or if it grows too large it can cause pain and pressure in the pelvic region and in the abdomen. This can block blood flow to the ovaries and can irritate abdominal tissue.

Pregnancy-like symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, or breast-tenderness is a common ovarian cyst symptom. It is important to note other symptoms in other to make the distinction between a pregnancy and ovarian cyst symptoms. Infertility, itself is a common symptom of ovarian cysts.

Pain, fullness, or pressure in the abdomen often accompanies ovarian cysts. This pain may start and stop suddenly, and may be severe and sharp. There may also be abdominal bloating or swelling. In addition, pain or pressure during bowel movements including problems passing urine as well as pressure on the rectum or bladder may be a sign of ovarian cysts developing.

Not all ovarian cysts point to a crisis, in fact, the majority of them eventually disappear on their own. However, when there are very strong ovarian cyst symptoms such as sudden/sharp abdominal pain, vomiting, or fainting then it is a serious situation which needs immediate medical intervention.

Ovarian cyst symptoms make it difficult for a general doctor to detect a cyst and they rarely make a diagnosis based on them. While locating a cyst based on symptoms is not impossible, the majority of ovarian cysts are found not because of ovarian cyst symptoms, but as a result of annual Pap smears.

Water - Why It’s Good To Drink 8 Glasses A Day

by Maria Esposito

Usually about two and a half litres of water is needed each day for a reasonably sedentary adult to replace the total water loss that occurs through skin, lungs, faeces and urine, unless they are in an unusual environment.

Just under half of this should be in the form of drinks such as water or cold herbal teas and just under a litre from food. The remaining 300ml is created by the body from its own metabolic processes.

Problems that arise from not drinking enough water is as follows.

1. The pulse rate goes up and there is an increase in the rectal temperature

2. Respiration increases

3. Tingling and numbness of fingers and feet

4. Increase in concentration of the blood

5. Lessening of the blood volume and more difficult blood circulation

The difficulty and inadequacy of the circulation of blood under these conditions leads to:

1. breathing difficulties

2. gastro-intestinal upsets

3. nausea and loss of appetite

4. if it carries on for an extended period it will cause problems with muscle movement and unstable emotions

In an animal study, where water was restricted the animals were highly irritable and in some cases bad tempered.

Thirst

It has been shown that under intense activity a man will voluntarily drink only about half as much water as what is needed to replace his losses from sweating and urine. Only after food and rest does a person crave the water needed to replace the deficit.

Hot Drinks

Drinking hot liquids can cause a rise in internal body temperature. The body will sweat to bring the temperature down. In medical practice this is sometimes used as a deliberate ploy to temporarily raise body temperature or induce the body to sweat. So cool or cold liquids are preferred to hot ones to replace fluid losses. This is especially the case if hot drinks are always the preferred choice rather than cold ones.

Sugar drinks

During physical activities lasting less than 90 minutes, water is generally the beverage of choice, however, the inclusion of small concentrations of carbohydrate (6%-8% carbohydrate) have been shown to better sustain power output over water alone during physical activities that produce fatigue in 60 minutes or longer.
