easy acoustic guitar tabs

by paul green

Guitar music has it’s own form of notation, called a tab, or tablature. Tabs are different from standard musical notation because they do not use staffs, ledger lines, key signatures, or notes. For this reason, acoustic guitar tabs are beneficial because they allow you to learn how to play the instrument without also having to learn to read music. Tabs may also be used as notation for other stringed instruments.

The form of musical notation specific to the guitar is acoustic guitar tabs, or tablature. Each chord is notated with one tab, a small chart of the guitar strings themselves. The string at the top of the diagram is the one furthest from your body as you hold the guitar. Each string will show a number, which is the fret you should hold to create that chord. If you see a zero, that means an open string. An X means that string should be muffled.

In case you don’t know what a fret is, it’s the space between two of the metal bars on the long “neck” of your guitar. Most acoustic guitars have from 21 to 24 of these frets. Their dots are just there to help you in positioning your fingers.

Check out acoustic guitar tabs and you’ll notice that the numbers run all in one line, indicating which fret to use on the one string you’re plucking. Those numbers tell you that you’re supposed to be playing each of them individually. If there’s a number on each line and the numbers are on top of each other, then you’re supposed to play the notes simultaneously, strumming away on all six of your strings.

When reading acoustic guitar tabs, you may come across things like, hammer-on, pull-offs, bends and slides. A hammer-on may be represented by something such as “7h9,” with the “h” being the notation for the hammer-on. A pull-off would be noted in the same way, with a “p” instead of an “h.” A bend is noted by a simple “b” and a slide would be represented by a “/.”

When you’re able to read acoustic guitar tabs, look for simple guitar tabs online. Find a melody that you recognize, and experiment with it. Though it might take a while for you to feel fully comfortable reading and playing acoustic guitar tabs, you’ll feel a great sense of accomplishment when everything falls into place.

It is best that you hear the song you are trying to learn as it makes the learning easier. While you can remember how a song goes, listening to it while you practice can help you with the rhythm and detail. It can be tremendously fun to learn how to play a guitar when you utilize acoustic guitar tabs. Before you realize it, you have many songs in your repertoire that you can play at parties to impress friends, or for your sole pleasure.

Tips For Beginning Keyboard Players To Live By

by Chris Channing

Those looking for a new pastime or hobby would do well to remember the benefits of learning the keyboard. But getting started out on this tough instrument will deter many new keyboard players away from becoming experts in their own fields of music. To help speed along the process and enjoyment, following a few guidelines would be in the musician’s best interests.

Having a good time is what playing the keyboard is all about. Being able to show off one’s skills in front of others is always nice, too! The best way to start out is find a couple of songs that one thinks holds a special value to him or her, and learn how to play it. Buying sheet music online or through local music stores is always a fun adventure, and learning to play one’s most loved songs is more than rewarding in the long run.

Learning how to get the perfect listening ear for musical notes is one of the highest sought skills in keyboard playing. This is because anyone who can learn how to play by ear will essentially be able to hear a song and play it just from listening to it! This also serves great purpose for when the keyboardist with the perfect ear wants to record their own music into tablature. Thus, it’s a good idea to try and learn by ear as well as through reading notes.

Timing and rhythm are vastly important to the success of a keyboardist. Timing and rhythm can both be learned by obtaining a metronome, which is just a device that ticks or beeps based on different timing measures. It’s best to use such metronomes while reading sheet music, preferably of music that the keyboardist enjoys so that proper timing can be observed.

Next, it’s good to try and use both hands where applicable. Even when one hand can be used to play multiple notes close together, it’s good to use two hands to simplify the action and to help learn placement at a quicker pace. This way, less attention will be put onto trying to find keys with a certain hand, and more attention can be put on reading sheet music that most keyboardists require for learning.

As a last word of advice, it is important to have more fun than anything. Often times when a keyboardist makes multiple mistakes, he or she can do so without the listeners actually being able to tell a difference. This fact helps keyboardists relax, since they know that striking every key precisely isn’t vital to having a great show for an audience- since most of the time they won’t even be able to tell the difference!

Final Thoughts

All in all, beginning on the keyboard is a tough prospect. But learning a bit here and there over the years will essentially make an expert of anyone, given enough time. Being able to play stunning performances on a keyboard on command is a valuable skill to have, and plenty of musicians make their living based on keyboards alone. Whether a hobby or a way of life, starting on this lifelong relationship with music is quite beneficial to growth and stress release for years to come.

The Brief History of Jimi Hendrix - The Guitar Legend

by Zack R.

Who’d have thought that a self-taught musician who, as a boy, desired a guitar so desperately he completely built one out of a broom before acquiring a pathetic one-stringed ukulele, would eventually be acclaimed by many as one of the greatest and most influential guitarists in rock and blues music history?

Jimi Hendrix was born in 1942 and served in the US military army as a paratrooper in his early days.Having taught himself the guitar, he played the US’ ‘Chitlin Circuit’ of clubs before heading over to New York, garnering a spot as the new guitarist for The Isley Brothers’ band before joining Little Richard’s back-up band and others.

On moving to London in 1966, he formed a 3 man band - The Jimi Hendrix Experience - which acquired rapid fame in Europe. Jimi became recognised for entertaining showmanship, which occasionally included setting his guitar ablaze! With a landmark show at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, and huge success of record album ‘Are You Experienced?’ Jimi became a world-wide star.

James Marshall Hendrix was the headline artist at the 1969 Woodstock Festival, where he played his controversial military fuzz-guitar version of ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’. James Marshall Hendrix died at the tender age of 27 in 1970, having recorded only three fully-conceived studio albums and more than three hundred unreleased recordings.

With his unusual style of playing guitars inverted (’left-handed’) and restrung to suit him, Hendrix is accredited with bringing the electric guitar to a higher level. Hendrix aimed to mix what he called ‘earth’, blues, jazz, or funk driven rhythm musical accompaniment, with ’space’, the high-pitched psychedelic sounds he improvised on his guitar.

Hendrix played a central role in establishing the Fender Stratocaster as the highest-selling electric guitar in history and making popular the use of extreme guitar distortion using effects pedals, including the wah-wah pedal, and other pedal units. He pioneered in the recording studio, experimenting with stereophonic and phasing effects.

With his albums amongst the most influential of the 1960s, James Marshall Hendrix altered rock and roll as the world knew it.

Cheap Acoustic Guitars

by Bart R

The material from which it is crafted is usually a main factor in the pricing of a guitar. Some guitars are manufactured using graphite or plastic in place of the traditional wood, but even in a cheap acoustic guitar wood makes it possible to achieve the tone you really want to produce. Cheap acoustic guitars made from materials other than wood often sound flat and lifeless, and new players are likely to find them frustrating. It is better to pay slightly more for an inexpensive wooden guitar than to buy a plastic one.

The Seagull S6 model isn’t the most cheap acoustic guitar there is but it offers extraordinary bang for the buck. You can’t talk about guitars for beginners without discussing this model. It comes with a top that is solid cedar and the sides and back are crafted from mahogany that gives it an attractive sound. It’s the sort of guitar that professional musicians hang onto, even though they own far more expensive guitars. Although $400-$500 might be more than you considered spending, you should really think about investing in this guitar. You might be able to find some online deals for this familiar and highly regarded musical instrument.

A solid, dependable choice for a cheap acoustic guitar is the Yamaha F310. It features a top of solid spruce along with a back and sides made from mahogany. The price might fit better for your budget, coming in at $150-$200 and it is a universal choice for the serious novice.

The next price range for cheap acoustic guitars is from $120-$150. A great selection in this category is the Epiphone DR-100. This guitar has a high quality spruce top with mahogany back and sides. This is a student instrument and you will have to upgrade at some point. If you don’t know how serious your interest in the guitar really is, then this is a good choice if you still want to obtain a decent quality guitar at a low price.

Even if you are looking for a really cheap acoustic guitar you are better off to avoid those with a cost below $100. Practically speaking, in the $100 price range there are no bargains. Many such guitars will be very disappointing. The cheap acoustic guitars under $100 are usually of such poor quality that may lead many inexperienced players to give up on learning to play guitar. This is particularly sad for young people, which are maybe at their first encounter with music and willing to play. So, stay away from those guitars under $100, since at that price you will not find stuff of even modest quality.

You are much better off eschewing the $80 guitar from the bargain bin and purchasing a used guitar. Second-hand guitars have a wealth and beauty all their own and you may actually like it better than one that is brand new. Go to a guitar store that offers a wide range of second-hand cheap acoustic guitars and look around and play them until you find the one that is perfect for you.

Even if you can only go with a cheap acoustic guitar, look for one with a top that is solid as opposed to one with a top made of plywood. The solid wood acoustic guitar will provide a rich and full tone. If it is in your budget, stick with ones that have solid wood on the backs and sides as well.

Buying Tickets On eBay - Are They Real?

by Allison Thompson

Are you finding it difficult to get hold of tickets for a big event you want to see? If you are, then it may be worth your while thinking about using eBay as a resource to find the tickets to any event that you want to go to. However, you need to be aware that not everyone who is selling such items of eBay is offering you the genuine article.

Therefore, before you go handing over your money, you need to make sure that you are buying from a seller who is honest. Plus you need to make sure that they are going to be sending out the genuine article and they are providing you with what you are looking for when it comes to seating. There are a number of steps that you can take which can help to ensure that you get what you have paid for.

Ensuring The Tickets Are Genuine

The first thing you want to do is check out the seller. EBay offers a great seller feedback program and rating program that will help you in deciding if this is the seller for you. Look at their history, have they sold tickets before? Look at their feedback; were they prompt and honest with their buyers? Did buyers get what they paid for? This is why the feedback system is designed for. You want to make sure that you are purchasing from someone who has a feedback with an overall rating of 97% to 100%. One or two bad reviews amongst hundreds is not necessary a sign of bad things to come.

Also the description provided with the tickets should immediately tell you its own story. In the description there should be details of the date when the event takes place, some more details about where the event is being held and where the seating for the event is located. You may also find that the seller provides the venue name and may provide a map of the venue showing exactly where the seating in relation to the tickets is.

Know what you should be expected to pay. Most people are not allowed, by law, to sell the ticket for more than its worth. Do your homework. Research the event itself, the venue, and know what the prices are for tickets prior to bidding.

If you feel something isn’t right or need to find out more then do not hesitate and contact the seller. EBay has a great way that allows you to contact the seller before placing a bid if you have any questions that need answering.

Some sellers will chose to upload a digital or scanned photograph of the actual tickets. In some cases, it will be accompanied by a receipt showing proof of purchase or some other avenue of authentication. This is ideal, but not always provided, except in the case of tickets that are high priced.

You should at all times trust your instincts and if you feel that something isn’t right then avoid making a bid on those tickets. Also when you do finally win the auction for those tickets you were after make sure that you use a trusted form of payment, such as PayPal or a credit card. With PayPal you have the added bonus of being provided with a Buyer Protection facility which means that you and the money you have paid over is protected if something untoward occurs and you don’t get your tickets.

Kelly Jackson Electric Guitar

by Vincent Roarden

The man who designed the Kelly Jackson Electric Guitar was Bradford Kelly - the guitarist from the Australian heavy metal group, Heaven. He designed the Jackson Kelly guitar for US guitar makers Jackson.

The shape of the Kelly is distinctive and it gives a very unique sustain and tone. The neck is also more outwards and is one of the skinniest of all the Jackson guitars. This makes the Kelly guitar very easy to play high up the neck.

Such a fast neck means that the Kelly guitar can be used to play some very difficult cords. Some famous guitarists who have used the Kelly guitar include Marty Friedman from Megadetha and Adam Darski from Behemoth. The Kelly Jackson electric guitar is very much a Jackson-type guitar. It has a stylish and hard rock look which is popular with heavy metal and harder rock guitarists.

Bradford Kelly died in 2004 but his name will last for many years with the Kelly Guitar being a very popular Jackson model. For a little bit of trivia, it is rumored that Bradford Kelly never received any money for his design of the Kelly guitar. Then again, as a passionate heavy metal guitarist, he may never of even asked for any.

Most guitars that are used in a heavy metal band needs to be robust enough to absorb all the knocks that it takes from being thrown about and played very hard. As with all the guitars made by Jackson, the Kelly Jackson guitar is constructed so that it can be thrown about and never be out of tune.

The sound of the Kelly guitar is awesome and if you are a real rock star or just a heavy metal fan, then you should seriously investigate investing in one of these beauties.

This guitar is grand. If you play metal and are looking for a low priced guitar to go well with your fashion this is just right for you. According to the site, “A Jackson guitar is meant to be played, and played hard. Each of our endorsers and players choose Jackson because they know we build our instruments just how they want them. Our instruments are built to handle hard lives on the road, and are ready to take whatever our players will throw at them — that’s just the way it is, and we won’t have it any other way. ”

Playing guitar: how to do it the right way

by Dom Varga

Playing guitar for extended periods of time is really stressful for your back if you don’t have good posture. Keeping the following key points in mind should help you maintain a good posture and hold your guitar correctly. When you hold your guitar, the back of the instrument should rest against your stomach. For people who use the right hand for playing guitar, the neck of the guitar will point to their left. The guitar body should rest on your right thigh. Your left hand should go around the guitar’s neck while your right arm goes around the body so your hand is near the strings. If it doesn’t feel right, try to shift your body around until you feel comfortable and relaxed.

If you are right handed, you use your left hand to press the strings and construct chords while playing guitar. Your left hand fingers are bent and pressed down on the strings and fret board.

The guitar neck’s back is curved, so that your hand will naturally conform with the shape of its neck. Your thumb should arch over the top of the neck when you hold it properly. From there, your thumb is in position for constructing chords. When you are constructing chords it is ok to press your thumb into the back of the guitar neck, albeit this is more in common with playing guitar scales. You should try both thumb positions and then you will be able to use the one that is most comfortable for you.

Strum the strings with your right hand to make sounds. Position your right arm over the body of the guitar. Your right bicep should rest on the top of the guitar. Position your right hand in front of the guitar’s sound hole. When playing guitar, the sound comes out of the sound hole.

Many people chose to play guitar with a pick. In order to use a pick it should be held between the forefinger and thumb of your dominant hand. Then the pick is pulled across the strings in order to “strum”. It is similar to plucking, but more pressure is necessary then you would use with just your fingers.

If you’re left handed, you’ll be happy to know that guitars are available for left-handed players. If you can’t find a suitable one for playing guitar left-handed, simply buy a regular guitar and have re-stringing done to reverse the order of the strings.

When playing guitar, holding the instrument properly as well as maintaining a good posture permits you to play longer and is crucial to achieving the correct tone. Get into the habit of starting properly and it will serve you well.

Easy steps for acoustic guitar tuning

by Shane Fenham

Whether you are playing a show or just practicing, you should tune your acoustic guitar every time you play. Playing an out of tune guitar is not fun. Beginners can become frustrated with learning because they do not understand the importance of acoustic guitar tuning. The few extra minutes it takes to tune your guitar is always worth it.

It’s best to use an electronic tuner for acoustic guitar tuning. Sit down with the electronic tuner on a nearby table or stool. Turn it on and strum the first string. The tuner will sense which string is being tuned using its built in microphone. The indicator will show you how close you are to the correct pitch. It will also show you whether you are sharp or flat. Turn the tuning key and tweak the string until your tuner shows that you’re in tune.

Always remember to tune up. This means going from loose to tight until the string is in tune. If you go too tightly and then loosen the string slightly to put it in tune, this is referred to as tuning down. It is always best to loosen the string and then retighten it to put it into tune. Tuning up keeps the string in tune in a much better fashion and the results are more precise.

If you dont purchase an electronic tuner, you still need to have a reference for pitch when playing acoustic guitar. You can use another guitar, a piano, tuning fork or an MP3 that you are certain is already in tune. Acoustic guitar tuning with an electronic tuner will consistently provide reliable tuning. But if you choose to tune the traditional way then use an electronic tuner to test your results. This is a great way to learn to develop your ear.

The sixth, or E string is the place to start acoustic guitar tuning. Be sure to tune it to the reference pitch, and after you have it tuned, the other five strings can be tuned to that note. Simply follow the tune. There is a lengthy reason for how and why this works, but it’s not necessary to know how a car works to drive it. Under that same theory, extensive musical knowledge isn’t required in order to perform acoustic guitar tuning.

Let’s begin our acoustic guitar tuning:

1. After verifying the guitar is in tune, play it on the fifth fret. Use that as a basis to tune the open fifth string. 2. Using the fifth string as a guideline, play the fifth fret on that to tune your fourth string. 3. Use the fifth fret on the fourth string to tune the third. 4. Pay close attention here, because there’s a bit of a change. The third string should be played using the fourth fret to tune the open second string. 5. Changing it up again- return to playing the fifth fret, only using the second string this time, to tune the first string.

Before you try acoustic guitar tuning for the first time, have an experienced player show you the ropes. The best place to learn is probably the music shop where you bought your acoustic guitar. After a few tries, you’ll get the hang of it. You have to put time and effort into mastering the skill of acoustic guitar tuning. Its a whole lot easier for someone just starting out to use an electronic tuner instead. Since they only cost about $20, they are well worth their price. Whats more, if you choose one that was manufactured especially for use with guitars, it can actually let you know which string youre playing too.

Here is why acoustic guitar tabs makes learning very simple

by Shane Fenham

Guitar music has its own musical notation. The standard musician’s notation of staffs, notes, note values, ledger lines, key signatures and time signatures is replaced with a simpler, operational type of notation, called a tab. Even if you do not know how to read music, you can learn how to play guitar with the acoustic guitar tabs. Many stringed instruments use tabs or tablatures.

If you’re not sure what a fret is, it’s the area between the metal bars on the neck, or the fingerboard of your guitar. Usually there will be somewhere between 21 to 24 frets on the acoustic guitar. The dots you see on the frets are simply a visual guide to let you see where you are.

While looking at acoustic guitar tabs, first you should note if the numbers are listed one after another on each of the lines. If they are arranged in this manner, the numbers are indicating to you which fret to use on that string, and you pluck that one string alone. On the other hand, if you notice that the numbers are stacked one on top of the other (in a vertical manner) on the individual line, the acoustic guitar tab is instructing you to play these notes simultaneously, strumming all six strings at the same time.

When you’re reading on up acoustic guitar tabs, a few other things are going to come up, like hammer-ons, pull-offs, bends and slides. The letter h indicates a hammer-on. For instance, you might see something like 7h9 on one of the lines. Pull-offs are indicated by a p, bends by the letter b, and slides by the notation “/ (thats a slash mark).
