Water - Why It’s Good To Drink 8 Glasses A Day

by Maria Esposito

Usually about two and a half litres of water is needed each day for a reasonably sedentary adult to replace the total water loss that occurs through skin, lungs, faeces and urine, unless they are in an unusual environment.

Just under half of this should be in the form of drinks such as water or cold herbal teas and just under a litre from food. The remaining 300ml is created by the body from its own metabolic processes.

Problems that arise from not drinking enough water is as follows.

1. The pulse rate goes up and there is an increase in the rectal temperature

2. Respiration increases

3. Tingling and numbness of fingers and feet

4. Increase in concentration of the blood

5. Lessening of the blood volume and more difficult blood circulation

The difficulty and inadequacy of the circulation of blood under these conditions leads to:

1. breathing difficulties

2. gastro-intestinal upsets

3. nausea and loss of appetite

4. if it carries on for an extended period it will cause problems with muscle movement and unstable emotions

In an animal study, where water was restricted the animals were highly irritable and in some cases bad tempered.

Thirst

It has been shown that under intense activity a man will voluntarily drink only about half as much water as what is needed to replace his losses from sweating and urine. Only after food and rest does a person crave the water needed to replace the deficit.

Hot Drinks

Drinking hot liquids can cause a rise in internal body temperature. The body will sweat to bring the temperature down. In medical practice this is sometimes used as a deliberate ploy to temporarily raise body temperature or induce the body to sweat. So cool or cold liquids are preferred to hot ones to replace fluid losses. This is especially the case if hot drinks are always the preferred choice rather than cold ones.

Sugar drinks

During physical activities lasting less than 90 minutes, water is generally the beverage of choice, however, the inclusion of small concentrations of carbohydrate (6%-8% carbohydrate) have been shown to better sustain power output over water alone during physical activities that produce fatigue in 60 minutes or longer.

Rheumatoid Arthritis Symptoms

by Ray Lam

Rheumatoid arthritis afflicts millions of people and can significantly reduce one’s quality of life. The early symptoms for rheumatoid arthritis include pain, redness and swelling in the small joints (typically the hands and/or feet) on both sides of the body.

Unlike osteoarthritis which causes pain and stiffness because the cartilage that normally prevents the bones in the joints from rubbing together is wearing away, rheumatoid arthritis symptoms are caused by an inflammation of the membrane that normally lubricates and protects the joints. In addition to the common symptoms for rheumatoid arthritis, small nodules or lumps may be present under the skin near the joints.

As another significant characteristic of autoimmune disease, rheumatoid arthritis tend to be associated with systemic symptoms, i.e. symptoms appearing throughout the body or the system. These include mild fever, loss of appetite, fatigue and malaise. Medically speaking, these are manifestations of cell discontent when they are (wrongly?) activated.

You may often experience significant stiffness in the morning, in and around the joints, lasting for more than thirty minutes, swelling in the wrists, knuckles, or the individual finger joints. You may also experience a feeling of warmth over the inflamed joints. Rheumatoid arthritis can affect many other joints, such as the jaw, elbows, shoulders, feet and ankles.

Rheumatoid arthritis occurs in a symmetrical pattern, for example if the right knee is affected, then the left knee will be affected also. Although it is quite common for an individual to be more inflamed and affected than another. Extreme fatigue, weight loss, fever, swollen, red and warm joints and an overall feeling of malaise are common symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis.

Some less common symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis include: inflammation of the lining around the heart and lungs, inflammation of the tear and salivary glands, and in rare cases, general inflammation of the lungs and blood vessels. While the early symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis are confined to the joints, other systems of the body can also be affected, particularly if it is not treated.

Since rheumatoid arthritis is caused by the whole-body immune reaction to a problem that is localized, it can affect any joint/joints irrespective of the fact that they are weight-bearing or not. Also, it usually affects the smaller joints like the hands, balls of the feet, wrists or elbows. But there are quite a few exceptions to this.

Rheumatoid arthritis symptoms typically come and go, sometimes over a person’s entire lifespan, and they may range from non-existent or mild to moderate or severe. Different drugs and treatments may be prescribed depending on the severity of the rheumatoid arthritis symptoms and the stage of progression of the disease.

How do you Store and Secure a Strapping Machine for Transport?

by Amy Nutt

Any type of heavy duty machinery needs to be properly stored and secured during transport. That avoids the machinery from becoming damaged and keeps individuals from getting injured if people are in the vicinity of the equipment during transport. In this case, we’re referring to strapping machines.

Strapping machines are used in strapping together objects for transport. Many times this includes boxes of merchandise stacked upon a pallet that need to be transported in that stack. The strapping keeps them from falling over and becoming damaged or causing injury. Sometimes, strapping machines need to be transported as well for strapping reasons. Sometimes it is good to have one on hand in the truck in case any strapping does come loose and the items need re-strapped. But how do you properly store and secure a strapping machine for transport? It would be terrible to hit a bump and such an expensive piece of equipment meet an untimely demise. Then again, what if a person were in the vicinity at that time? That could get a bit ugly.

Storing and securing

There are several ways that some businesses choose to secure their strapping machines during transport. Those methods include a bolted down box large enough to house the strapping machine or a wall mounted unit that keeps it secure.

Below is an explanation of how each method can keep your strapping machine secure:

- The bolted down box method can be successful for a number of reasons. First of all, the box should be metal or a hard plastic that is very durable. It should have a lid to keep the strapping machine inside. However, you want to make sure that it cannot move around inside the box. That means using materials such as Styrofoam or another sturdy packing material to ensure there is no movement inside the box whatsoever. What this does is keeps the strapping machine perfectly stable and keeps it out of the way of anyone who needs to work around in that area.

- Some choose to use a wall mount method. This includes using brackets and straps to secure it to the wall. This keeps it out of the floor, allowing for more floor space in the cargo area. This is opposed from using a box bolted to the floor, which can take up some floor space. However, the wall mount method needs to be done carefully. If it is not secure, then the strapping machine can become airborne if it is necessary for the driver to slam on their brakes. This can damage the strapping machine, which can cause a bad situation in the case that the strapping machine is needed during transport.

Other creative means

Of course, strapping machine owners have come up with their own ways to store and secure their strapping machines that they have found to be successful, but doing so can be a bit dangerous if it has never been done before. The above methods are frequently used methods that are effective in keeping both you and your equipment safe. What happens is you’re protecting your investment and also protecting those who have to work around the strapping machine.

The most important thing is to be sure everyone involved is using their head. Anytime anyone thinks, “I’ll just lay it in the floor because I’m sure nothing will happen?” is the individual who gets into trouble because the strapping machine is damaged, merchandise that was in the way of the flying strapping machine was damaged, or someone was injured. So be sure to properly store and secure your strapping machine prior to transport.

Holistic Treatments for Irritable Bowel Syndrome

by Maria Esposito

An increasing number of people are suffering with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), a gastro-intestinal health problem.

Suggested IBS Triggers

1. Food hypersensitivity or intolerances

2. Stress or emotional disturbances

3. Intestinal infections and inflammation caused by parasites or unfriendly bacteria. These can cause an increase in intestinal mucosal permeability (Leaky Gut Syndrome), which allows food and chemicals to enter the blood stream before they are properly digested. This can overload the immune system and cause an increase in the body’s inflammatory response, triggering mucosal sensitivity, abnormal motility and secretory response.

4. Dysbiosis (the imbalance between the good and bad bacteria in the intestinal tract).

5. A change in the bowel flora. Possibly as a result of antiobiotics, laxatives, low intake of dietary fibre or diarrhoea.

Lifestyle and Diet Factors

Increasing the intake of water can be beneficial as well as more dietary fibre, particularly in the form of fruit and vegetables. Reduce dehydrating drinks such as tea and coffee that contain caffeine.

Constipation, diarrhoea and dysbiosis (toxic bacteria) may be directly attributed to food sensitivities and intolerances.

Meteorism (bloating and associated symptoms) is caused by trapped intestinal gas, though the mechanism of this painful condition is not yet fully understood. Bacterial decomposition of lactose can increase the amounts of gas, leading to meteorism, intestinal rumbling, flatulence, bloating, diarrhoea or bowel movement immediately after consuming dairy products.

One of the factors thought to play a strong role in IBS pathology are food intolerances. Bacterial fermentation can be the result, with symptoms caused by the increased production of intestinal gases.

Natural methods of treating IBS

1. Drinking one-and-a-half litres of pure water daily, in addition to usual beverage intake.

2. Reducing or eliminating tea, cocoa, chocolate, cola and alcohol.

3. Identifying food sensitivities or allergies and eliminating the foods that give rise to them.

4. Increasing fibre intake by eating more fruit and vegetables (NB: eating raw foods can be a problem for some people).

5. Cutting stress levels.

The therapist and client must collaborate effectively. It is vitally important that the client is fully committed to playing an active role in dealing with IBS.

The therapist may feel that that laboratory blood tests are required to find out if there are any food allergies or sensitivities. Other tests that can be ordered include those for leaky gut syndrome and overgrowth of candida yeast.

Original Parts VS Aftermarket Parts

by Amy Nutt

Many debate whether or not original automobile parts or aftermarket parts are better when a vehicle must be repaired. Some may believe that the original parts are better since they are made by the manufacturer, but others claim that the aftermarket parts are equal to or even better than the original parts. So which is it? Is it just a matter of opinion or is there fact to either one of these claims?

There may be one factor that affects whether or not a repair shop may use the original or aftermarket parts and that is state regulation. Each state has different regulations regarding which parts can be used on a vehicle. This is because the state regulates the insurance industry and if the state allows, the insurance company you are with may allow the use of aftermarket parts, which could play to your advantage. You may or may not be asked permission, depending on your state. Then again, there are situations in which you can make the decision yourself, especially if the insurance company is not involved.

Original parts

It is fair to say that some original parts are up to par and some are not. Many times a vehicle breaks down because of something that is wrong with the original parts. This is also true when a recall occurs. This may deter an automobile owner from using the original parts if they have that choice. If it is a recall that is leading to the replacement of the part, the dealership making the repair or replacement will use what they are instructed to use.

But when you go to a local parts store, you are usually given options as to which parts to use. They will more than likely quote you the price of an economy part that will save you money, the original part that is just like the part you are replacing, and a more expensive part that costs more because it is of a better quality. Some people may go for the original part since it was made by the manufacturer, but is that always the best way to go?

Aftermarket parts

Let’s look at the other two parts: the economy part and the part that is more expensive. These are aftermarket parts. There are many aftermarket parts at the economy price that perform well and sometimes this performance can be equal to or better than the performance of the original. Then there is the more expensive aftermarket part, which more than likely performs better than the original. You can possibly get a longer life out of that aftermarket part than you can the economy part or the original. It may cost more, but the cost is usually not a significant amount more than the original part.

What it comes down to is that the price difference becomes worth it because you will not have to replace the part as quickly as you did the original part on the car. These parts also frequently come with guarantees or lifetime warranties so that you can have the part replaced for free if it prematurely fails.

The benefits

So it is fair to say that purchasing an aftermarket part is more cost-effective than buying the exact same part that failed. Unless modifications have been made by the manufacturer to keep that part from failing in the same way, you can count on the part failing in the same manner as it did the first time. You can save yourself many headaches by investing in the aftermarket part that has made improvements on the failures of the original.

The truth about natural insect repellent

by Joseph Symond

Bug season is upon us once again, and I felt it timely to comment on the growing number of supposedly ‘natural’ insect repelling products that seem to be popping up everywhere we look.

As a consumer, you will see many advertisements for natural repellents, and must be aware that there are many “marketing” companies looking for any way via which to squeeze your valuable dollar from you. They have no business being in the world of insect repellents, but due to the value of the market (approximately $1 billion in the USA alone), they cannot resist expanding their core business (which is usually consumer products, air fresheners or cleaning supplies) to now include repellents in an attempt to swindle a share of this valuable market.

US VS. THEM

GERANIOL: In 1999, the University of Florida (Gainesville) developed a “naturally derived” formula for repelling mosquitoes called “Geraniol”. It is a derivative of the Geranium flower and, when applied to the skin in its liquid form (exactly like DEET), was proven to repel mosquitoes for up to 4 hours. Geraniol is manufactured synthetically in a laboratory to avoid the high cost of extracting the 100% natural ingredient from the flower itself and to ensure that it is perfectly replicated each time. This eventually leads to “immunity” built up by mosquitoes as they commonly become immune to “man-made” repellents and pesticides in 3 to 4 life cycles.

Geraniol also has a terrible smell associated with it and, as a result of growing complaints from consumers, additional ingredients such as mint or citronella are often added to Geraniol products to mask the pungent Geraniol scent.

Today, as more and more consumers seek out natural products to protect themselves, their families and their pets from the threat of disease carrying insects, a number of “marketing” companies have entered into agreements with the University of Florida to use Geraniol as the foundation of their range of “natural”insect repellents.

Despite the fact that Geraniol has only been tested to work in liquid form for up to 4 hours, these companies are selling 120 hour wristbands, patches, candles, tablecloths and more using Geraniol (with mint or citronella to mask the odor) and claiming that these products work to repel mosquitoes and other insects. You will see these products heavily marketed on television and elsewhere, but never in mainstream retail stores (i.e. Wal-Mart) where the guarantee of high returns from unsatisfied customers is too risky.

Don’t be misled.

BUG BAM: Personally developed by Joseph M. Symond first in 1998 and then reformulated in 2005, the Bug Bam formula is truly 100% natural, using only 100% natural essential oils. Joseph personally worked with perfumers, scientists and others to develop the perfect combination of efficacy and appealing scent. As a result, the Bug Bam formula has been scientifically proven time and again (by the top laboratories in both Australia and the USA) to work in both liquid AND solid forms, making it THE most effective natural repellent available on the market today. Not only does it work, but it is safe for all ages, lasts for up to 100 hours and smells GREAT by comparison to anything else on the market.

Playing on the fact that masking our scent from flying, biting insects keeps them away, Bug Bam’s formula in liquid OR solid form releases a (pleasant) scent that is strong enough to hide the user from mosquitoes and other flying, biting insects. And because the Bug Bam formula actually does come from “live” plants and not a lab, every batch we make has a slight difference to the last due to soil, air, water and climate changes before harvesting. This makes it very hard if not impossible for mosquitoes to adapt to.

Bug Bam is THE ONLY company in the world that can boast a scientifically tested and proven range of 100% natural indoor and outdoor repellent products that are safe, effective and do not require sprays, batteries, smoke, flames, butane or a power source of any kind.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?

Play it smart. Protect yourself from more than just bugs and ask for evidence supporting a products efficacy. If a company is selling a repellent wristband, candle, fan, patch, tablecloth or other item, ask them for testing data that supports their formula working in THAT product. And ask if this is their core business. If all they can provide you with is an outdated lab report or data showing that (someone else) formula works in a liquid or spray form only, and they are asking you to buy their product using that formula in a solid form (such as a wristband), TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE and purchase something that has actually been proven to work!

We pride ourselves on the fact that BUGS ARE OUR BUSINESS 24/7. Bug Bam is all we do and it is not a side business for us. Because of companies offering inferior products, Bug Bam has been forced to prove itself time and time again and, despite the great expense of doing so, our products come through with flying colors.

It is important for us to be honest and factual to you, the consumer, if we expect to gain your business and, most importantly your trust. When it comes to protecting yourself and your family, and you want to use something TRULY natural and effective, try BUG BAM!. Because Mosquitoes Suck!

Originating FHA Loans: Why HUD May Stop Your Loan Closing

by Carl Pruitt

A few years ago, during the real estate boom, an unforeseen problem began occurring regularly that created quite a problem for mortgage lenders when they had to foreclose on a home. Everybody who had ever stayed up late watching TV suddenly wanted to become a real estate investor. A “house flipper”.

There is such a thing as a legitimate “house flipper”. This type of investor uses their own money and credit to buy up foreclosures and other distressed real estate, repair the property and then sell it at a profit. This provides an important function in the economy. Unfortunately, the investors flooding the market over the last couple of years never quite matched that description. These master television trained real estate investors would make an offer on a property even though they had no financing of their own. Then they would go in and sweep it up and mop a little. At the same time, they would find some poor uninformed dreamer who didn’t really understand what was going on, agree to pay all the loan closing costs and down payment assistance, and get them preapproved for an FHA loan. They would then set up back to back closings so they could buy the property and sell it to the new buyer at the same time without ever having put up a dime of their own money. They would frequently sell the home at double the price they paid originally.

Of course these “sellers” would offer such easy terms (at a time when it was a seller’s market and others weren’t making such concessions) that they would have a boatload of potential prospective homeowners to choose from. Unfortunately after this had been going on for a few years, some of these new home owners began to default on their mortgages and HUD would have to pay off the lender from the FHA insurance fund. This is the source of all the HUD houses you see advertised in the weekend papers. Trouble is, when HUD was trying to sell these houses they kept having to take a big loss, endangering the very existence of the FHA program.

Thus several years ago, HUD implemented their “anti-flipping” rule. Now any house that had changed owners within the previous 90 days was absolutely ineligible for any FHA financing. The goal of this rule was to make sure that homes were being sold by legitimate investors who were taking the time to actually bring the property value up before selling it and making a killing.

Of course in HUD’s usual inimitable governmental style they overlooked one tiny factor that created a big problem in the marketplace. They failed to create an exemption for homes that had been foreclosed upon and were being sold by the lender. This excluded a large segment of the potential buyers from the picture and caused lenders to take a big hit in the prices foreclosed property would bring. So in 2006, HUD amended the rule to exclude homes being sold by government sponsored enterprises and federally chartered financial institutions. However, they left the rule in place for all other sellers.

Now we arrive at the present. The subprime market has crashed. Foreclosures are setting records every month. Thousands and thousands are losing their homes. But at least, we think, many potential new first time home buyers can now take advantage of this drop in home prices while FHA interest rates are low.

Smart real estate agents and mortgage originators who are up to date on guidelines release these nervous potential home owners out into the market. As they visit these foreclosed properties, they always ask whether the present owner is eligible for that financial institution exception. The lender’s real estate agent will say honestly that this home is definitely still owned by the bank and the bank is an exempt institution. Everyone completes the negotiations and gets all the right signatures to put the buyer’s mortgage in process. Everything is wonderful up to this point. As normally happens, the title examination results are faxed over to the processor and look fine at first glance. Then while double checking the details, the mortgage processor notices that the owner named on the title policy doesn’t exactly match the contract. Very similar, but not an exact match. So a call is made to the attorney/title company’s office and the processor finds out that now a subsidiary company of the foreclosing now owns the property. A fairly common practice lenders employ in managing their real estate owned portfolio.

These subsidiaries of the lenders often obtain title to the property many months after completion of the original foreclosure. The trouble is, they are not exempt from the anti flipping rule and have usually owned the property a month or less. No one in the lender’s office, or the attorney’s office every tried to mislead the buyer, but now that buyer who must move out of an apartment in a few days, must wait 60 more days to close on and move into their new house.

Loan officers must be sure to warn real estate agents and potential new home owners, about this rule. Be sure that everyone goes far above and beyond the call of duty asking questions about the chain of title of the home before setting any dates on the sales contract. This situation doesn’t cause much difficulty if caught at the beginning and planned for, but can be absolutely devastating if this detail is missed.

Learning to Play Golf in Windy Conditions

by Ray Walberg

There are many factors to consider before you choose a club and take a swing. One of the biggest factors to consider is golf weather. While a wet course will make your ball roll slower and a dry course will have the opposite affect, it?s really the wind that will have the biggest impact on your round of golf. Wind affects the direction your ball will go after you hit it and even after it touches the ground. Here are some basic golf tips for helping you compensate for wind.

The majority of golfers are right handed so we’ll go over this as if you are right handed. If you are left handed then you?ll need to adjust accordingly.

The first thing to do is determine which way the wind is blowing. If the wind is blowing on your back then you?ll strike the ball softer than usual especially if it is a brisk wind. This can certainly work in your favor especially on a drive. Hit the ball high and let the wind do most of the work. If the wind is blowing directly into the front of you then the opposite is the case; strike the ball harder than you normally would to counteract the force of the wind.

What if the wind is blowing from the right or left? If you don?t compensate then you?ll find that your shot will fall to the left or right of your intended target and might end up rolling completely off the green. For example, if your hole is 150 yards from the tee box and the flag is in the middle of the green you?ll need to alter your stance to compensate. Depending on the amount of wind you may also need to keep the ball low so the trajectory is not as greatly impacted. If the wind is blowing severely then you may consider choosing a club bigger than usual; a five or six iron instead of a seven iron.

Usually a breeze won?t have a huge impact on putting since the wind is less powerful near the ground but this isn?t always the case. If you are on a rise or the wind is very powerful then you?ll also need to compensate on these shots.

To play golf you have to take into account a number of factors and wind is one that shouldn?t be underestimated. Next time there is a windy day, don?t skip on golfing but take advantage of it and practice on the driving range so you know how to compensate.

Let’s Look At Some Skills For Sit N Go Tournaments

by Craig Edwards

Online poker offers some very diverse tournaments. The Sit N Go is one type that should not be overlooked. Early on, you don’t want to give away too many chips on speculative hands. An example would be a medium pocket pair like 88. If you miss the flop, you have to be prepare to fold. Betting this type of hand from early positions can be a recipe for disaster.

In SNG’s a lot of players waste too many chips early with hands like small pocket pairs. However, these can be raised and make big profits in cash games. The way a single table event works, makes it better to play these hands in small preflop pots. You seldomly will hit your set post flop and it won’t cost you too many chips.

As the blinds get big in relation to your stack, you need to play aggressively. Whenever you can, you must try to steal the blinds. These tourneys become a game of chicken, steals, and resteals. If you don’t get involved, you will find yourself with too small of a stack. You might get called and knocked out even when you finally get a good starting hand.

As the blinds get large, or are are big relative to your own stack, you need to consider going all in. If you think it might work out better to raise, that is fine providing you are going to push all in post flop. You have to be willing to risk it all to give yourself a chance to win.

If you know your opponent is tight, you can push more often, because you will get enough folds. Your opponents stack size is a factor here also. If he has a big stack and can afford it, he will make more calls. The middle stacks want to protect their chips more and can be “trusted” to fold often.

When you’re on the bubble, your play is determined a lot by stack sizes. For example, you might push all in to try to knock out a short stack. You could fold the same hand pre-flop to the big stack to save chips also. Naturally, you would have to fold to a big raise.

Now is when you look to go all in, but don’t think only about your cards when deciding. Anything is playable sometimes, especially if your stack will damage the others enough to scare them. When betting at a big stack you need better cards as you will get called more frequently.

When you have a big stack late in the tournament, you should be stealing the blinds often. This is best done against the medium stacks. They will feel it’s too expensive to play against you and risk getting knocked out.

The toughest spot, especially on the bubble, is being the middle man. Chip leaders threaten to eliminate you, and the small guys are ready to risk it all to get back into the game. You have to have higher quality hands in this spot. Very hard decisions in this situation arise.

So, here is a list of ideas to get you started. Each one of these topics is a story in itself. Learn as much as you can about how you want to play in each situation and develop your own style to beat the SNG games. GO win some tournaments.

So these are most of the basics specifically for the SNG games. You could write an entire article on each of these ideas. Develop your knowledge and skills in these areas, and maybe you will be beating the Sit N Gos. Happy hunting.
