To understand why, we need to understand something about traditional dieting - and why it so often fails.

The principle behind traditional dieting is simply to “starve” the body. That is, if you eat less, you should lose weight. Sounds simple enough, but the truth is that traditional dieting usually does not take off pounds, and in fact, it can cause weight gain.

As you lower your daily intake of food, your body undergoes a series of hormonal and metabolic changes associated with starvation. It tries to store as much food as possible in a quick and easy way, resulting in more fat buildup. At the same time, it begins to break down muscle tissues for energy.

This physiological adaptation of the calorie-deprived body will end up in water loss as the body attempts to flush out toxic metabolic by-products. This water loss would seem loss of weight at the outset. But this is only temporary as water weight can be regained after resuming normal diet. Further, it can also cause more weight gain in the form of fat- losing general muscle mass at the same time.

The shifting calories diet approach is very different from the normal starvation diet. It revolves around constantly changing your food intake amounts and types, all the while maintaining the necessary nutritional balance to avoid the muscle loss side effects.

The real reason why the shifting calories diet has been successful lies on the proper distribution of food intake in the right amount during the day. Having 4 or small meals with a variety of food a day helps the body to break down extra fat while maintaining a healthy level of daily food intake. One should eat as much as he wants during a small meal, but he should stop even before his hunger has been fully satisfied.

Naturally, eating well works better with a proper exercise regimen. This is just as true with the calorie shifting approach, so try to add a short daily walk to your diet. You can walk a little farther or faster each day. You’ll be surprised at the results you’ll see with daily walking combined with calorie shifting.

Whether you’re moving, downsizing your home or going on an extended trip, you may find yourself in a position where you need to put some or all of your things into a self storage unit. If you have to put your things in storage, you should know that they will be exactly as you left them when you come to pick them up again. The things that you put into a storage unit are going to be things that you love and want to keep safe; otherwise they would have gone into the garbage instead of storage. There are a few things that you should keep in mind however, when you are putting your belongings into self storage in order to keep them in good condition, especially the special items such as paintings and family heirlooms.

Before you put your possessions into storage, you will need to categorize them and organize them so that you know the best kind of storage to put them in. Always keep your china and glass figurines at the top of the pile of goodies just in case. With paintings, framed items and mirrors, you should pack them in special picture boxes that keep them safe or if you don’t have any of them, wrap them in blankets and tuck them somewhere safe where they won’t fall or have things fall on them.

If you are prepared and plan out your self storage strategies before you begin your move, you are sure to find your things exactly as you left them when you are able to get them back out of storage.
